Carving Up The Remarkables and Coronet Peak This Winter

If you find yourself trembling with excitement each winter as you think about making fresh tracks in the pristine powder, then it’s time to book a trip to New Zealand’s Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski fields.

Open from June to October each year and located just a short drive from popular Queenstown, in New Zealand’s South Island, Coronet Peak, and The Remarkables are ideal adventure playgrounds for those who like to tackle the slopes with a breathtaking backdrop.

Coronet Peak

First up is Coronet Peak, a world-class ski area that is perfect for all levels of ability and features 280 hectares of skiable terrain.

Indeed, Coronet features a kaleidoscope of wide-groomed trails, steep off-piste runs, moguls, and open bowls. The mountain also features two express quad lifts, a high-speed six-seater lift, four surface conveyor lifts, and one T-Bar. Expect to see consistently good snow even if the powder is light, thanks to Coronet’s fully automated snowmaking system (featuring 213 snow guns), which is the largest in the country.

Open for longer hours than most ski regions in New Zealand, seasoned skiers and boarders will love taking advantage of Coronet’s First Tracks from 8am, as well as sweet shredding slopes during the weekend night skiing.

Snow bunnies will also appreciate the great line-up of events that are held at Coronet Peak. From the Queenstown Winter Festival and the New Zealand Winter Games, to the fully licensed restaurant, bar and cafe, and live music scene, there is something for everyone to enjoy when the sun goes down. This year sees Coronet Peak doubling the previous amount of night-skiing terrain, plus a new “Park after Dark” freestyle run that features boxes, rails, and a huge airbag.

The Remarkables

Rising spectacularly from the shores of Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables mountain range and ski field offers some of New Zealand’s best experiences on the white stuff. Featuring 220 hectares of varied skiable terrain, the Remarkables suits all ability types, including some of the best beginner slopes and learning facilities such as the Shadow Bowl run and Alta Chair. Likewise, pro skiers will enjoy tackling the black diamond runs and one of New Zealand’s mightiest in-bound backcountry trails, the 1.5km Homeward Bound trail.

Freestyle boarders are also well-catered for at the Remarkables, with freestyle features across three terrain parks, including only Burton signature Terrain Park in the Southern Hemisphere complete with a selection of rails, boxes, and jumps.
  
For après fun, visitors can take in live music and enjoy a hot chocolate or alcoholic beverage on the sunny deck or within the fully-licensed family restaurant. There is also an Ice Bar located at the top of the Alta chairlift that shows off the stunning alpine views.
