Starting out in the vibrant city of Brisbane, you can pick up your Mighty Camper from their Brisbane branch. Before hitting the road, we recommend taking some time to explore the city.

There are so many great attractions and experiences to be had including a visit to the Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art. This gallery boasts a stunning collection of contemporary Australian and international art. Don't miss the Indigenous Australian art section, it's truly mesmerising. The Mount Coot-tha Lookout is another great place to stop at as it offers panoramic views of Brisbane and its surroundings. You’ll have the choice of walking up or driving to the top to enjoy the breath-taking scenery. A visit to Brisbane should always include a visit to the Roma Street Parkland. This lush parkland in the heart of the city is the perfect spot for a picnic or a leisurely stroll. There are plenty of gardens, water features, and artworks to discover. If you're an Australian wildlife lover, then the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre is the place to go. The Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre is a wildlife sanctuary that showcases native animals such as kangaroos, wallabies, and koalas. You can also go on a bushwalk or canoe on the nearby lake.

Day 2
Brisbane to Byron Bay

Distance 164km - Driving Time 2 Hour

After what is sure to be a lovely time in Brisbane, it’s on to the first stop in the road trip, the popular coastal town of Byron Bay. The drive from Brisbane to Byron Bay is a scenic one, starting off as a highway drive, then taking you through lush green countryside and along the coast.

Once in Byron Bay you’ll be spoilt for choice of fun and exciting activities to keep you entertained. One of the top attractions in Byron Bay is the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Situated at Australia's most easterly point, the lighthouse boasts stunning views of the surrounding ocean and coastline. It's definitely worth a visit, whether you're a history buff or just looking for a great photo opportunity. If you're a beer lover, be sure to stop off at Stone and Wood Brewery in Byron Bay. They brew some delicious craft beers, and their tasting room is a great place to kick back and relax with a cold one. For a different perspective on the area, consider taking a cruise with Byron Bay Eco Cruises & Kayaks. They offer a range of tours, including kayaking, snorkelling and whale watching, and you'll get to see some of the stunning marine life that calls this part of the world home.

Byron Bay to Coffs Harbour

Distance 232km - Driving Time 2 Hour 20 Minutes

The next stop on the road trip is at the gorgeous coastal town of Coffs Harbour. The drive from Byron Bay to Coffs Harbour will take you along the scenic Pacific Highway, which runs parallel to the coastline and offers stunning ocean views.

One must-see attraction in Coffs Harbour is the Forest Sky Pier, located in Sealy Lookout in the Orara East State Forest. This towering wooden structure stands 15 meters high and offers breath-taking views of the forest and coastline. It's a great place to stop and take some photos or have a picnic. Another popular destination for locals and tourists alike is the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden, which is located just a few minutes' drive from Coffs Harbour. This sprawling garden features a wide variety of native plants and flowers, as well as walking trails, picnic areas, and a café. If you're in the mood for some sun, sand, and surf, be sure to check out Diggers Beach. This picturesque stretch of coastline is perfect for swimming, surfing, or just soaking up some rays. There are also plenty of nearby cafes and restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat.

Day 4
Coffs Harbour to Port Macquarie

Distance 161km - Driving Time 1 Hour 45 Minutes

The journey then continues on to Port Macquarie, which will take a little under two hours to get to. The drive from Coffs Harbour to Port Macquarie is a scenic one that will take you through picturesque coastal towns and  past lush greenery.

One of the must-visit places in Port Macquarie is the Koala Hospital. This non-profit organisation provides care and rehabilitation for sick and injured koalas. You can take a guided tour of the hospital, learn about the work they do, and even adopt a koala! Another highlight is the Sea Acres Rainforest Centre, where you can take a guided tour of the rainforest and learn about the diverse plant and animal life that call it home. For stunning views of the coastline, head to Tacking Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse is open to visitors, and you can climb to the top for a panoramic view of the ocean and surrounding countryside, truly a mesmerising sight to be seen! If you're interested in history, don't miss the Port Macquarie Museum. The museum showcases the region's rich cultural heritage and features exhibits on early settlement, maritime history, and local industries. If you’re craving some beach time to relax and unwind, head over to Lighthouse Beach. This picturesque beach is known for its crystal clear waters and gentle surf and is the perfect place to soak up some sunshine.

As for where to stay, NRMA Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park is a great option. This holiday park is located right on the waterfront and is the perfect base for exploring all that Port Macquarie has to offer.

Day 5
Port Macquarie to Port Stephens

Distance 246km - Driving Time 2 Hours 45 Minutes

From Port Macquarie it’s on to Port Stephens which will be a beautiful coastal drive, with plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery along the way. You'll pass through charming towns and villages, and have the chance to take in some stunning views of the ocean.

Once you get to Port Stephens, you’ll be spoilt for choice of things to do. Some of our must-do include the Tomaree Head Summit Walk. This walk offers breath-taking views of the coastline and takes you through beautiful bushland. It's a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the natural beauty of the area! When you’re wanting to cool off and enjoy some beach time head over to Little Beach Reserve. This beautiful sandy beach is perfect for swimming and sunbathing and has BBQ facilities and picnic tables, making it a great spot for a family outing. Located just next to Little Beach, is Fly Point Park which is another great spot for a picnic or a game of frisbee, before exploring one of the many walking trails. If you're looking for a delicious bite to eat, then we highly recommend stopping in at Little Beach Boathouse. This waterfront restaurant serves up delicious seafood which pair perfectly with their great selection of drinks.

When it’s time to park up your Mighty Camper for the night, the BIG4 Bays Holiday Park is a great choice. It's located right in the heart of Port Stephens, and is just a short walk from some of the area's best beaches and attractions.

Port Stephens to Sydney

Distance 208km - Driving Time 2 Hours 45 Minutes

Next up on the ultimate road trip from Brisbane to Melbourne is the city of Sydney! The scenic drive will take you along the picturesque coastal towns of New South Wales and will take around 2 hours to complete.

Once you arrive in Sydney, there's no shortage of activities to keep you entertained. One of our favourite things to do in Sydney is a visit to the iconic Sydney Opera House where you can catch a show or simply admire the stunning architecture. Darling Harbour is another popular destination, offering plenty of waterfront dining options, shopping, and entertainment.  Close by here is the Royal Botanic Gardens where you can take a stroll through the gardens to admire a diverse range of plants and flowers, or you can head to the Art Gallery of New South Wales to see some world-class art exhibitions. Of course, no trip to Sydney is complete without a visit to Bondi Beach, known for its golden sands and crystal-clear waters. Whether you're a surfer, sunbather, or foodie, there's something for everyone at this iconic beach.

Day 7
Sydney to Canberra

Distance 286km - Driving Time 3 Hours

From Sydney, it’s onto the Australian capital city of Canberra! Along the way you'll be treated to stunning views of the Australian countryside, passing through charming towns along the way.

When you arrive in Canberra, there are plenty of things to see and do. One of the must-visit attractions is the Australian War Memorial, which offers a fascinating insight into the country's military history. The museum has an extensive collection of exhibits, including weapons, uniforms, and personal stories of soldiers. Another highlight is the National Museum of Australia, which showcases the country's social and cultural history. From Aboriginal art to interactive displays, there's something for everyone here. If you're traveling with kids, make sure to stop by the Cockington Green Gardens. This miniature village is a delight to explore, with tiny replicas of famous landmarks from around the world, as well as a charming train ride that takes you through the gardens.

Canberra to Falls Creek

The adventure continues and next it’s on to Falls Creek. Get ready for a scenic and adventurous drive as you’ll be driving through the Australian Alps with winding roads and breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Along the way, make sure to stop at the Rocky Valley Lookout. This vantage point offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, and is a great spot to take some photos and stretch your legs. Once you arrive in Falls Creek, there are plenty of things to do and see. Check out the Falls Creek Museum to learn about the history of the area, or head out to Bogong High Plains for some hiking or mountain biking. Don't miss Fainter Falls, a stunning waterfall located just a short hike from the main village. The falls are particularly spectacular after rainfall, so keep an eye on the weather forecast and plan accordingly!

Falls Creek to Melbourne

The final stop on the road trip is of course the vibrant city of Melbourne and with so many things to do in Melbourne, you’re in for a real treat and a great end to your adventure. The drive from Falls Creek to Melbourne is a scenic adventure through the Victorian High Country. You'll wind your way down the mountain range and pass through quaint towns, lush forests, and rolling hills.

Then, once you arrive in Melbourne, if you're looking for a bit of city exploration, head to Fitzroy and wander the streets. The bohemian neighbourhood is full of street art, independent boutiques, and trendy cafes waiting to be discovered. For a dose of culture, visit the National Gallery of Victoria. It's one of the oldest and largest art museums in Australia, with an impressive collection of Australian and international art to marvel at. If you prefer to spend your time outdoors, make your way to the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. These beautiful gardens are home to over 8,500 plant species and offer a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. After a day of exploring all that Melbourne has to offer, head to Jim's Greek Tavern in Collingwood for a delicious well-earned dinner. This family-run restaurant has been serving up traditional Greek cuisine for over 40 years and is a favourite with locals and tourists alike!
